City dressing, down to a fine art
Wednesday 18 July, 2018
For 250 years, The Royal Academy of Arts has championed artists. Exhibiting a range of art, from ancient sculpture to modern-day masterpieces, this independent charity continues to be run by practising artists and architects.
The Royal Academy of Arts did not let this momentous occasion pass by unnoticed. As part of a full RA250 campaign, they expanded their annual Summer Exhibition beyond the walls of the main galleries to the streets of Mayfair and St James’s.
Taking over Piccadilly, Regent Street, St James’s and Bond Street, Royal Academicians Grayson Perry, Cornelia Parker, Rose Wylie and Joe Tilson created a range of flags for the anniversary to decorate the streets throughout the summer.
Working in collaboration with the RA and the BIDs, the Field and Lawn team installed the 200 flags required for the display. Negotiating some of the busiest streets in London, the team’s experience in city dressing meant we had the job down to a fine art.
Here’s to the next 250 years, RA!
