Flying the Flag

At Field and Lawn, we like to think of all our projects as our very own “works of art”, but a recent City Dressing task undertaken by the Bristol branch really took this to another level.

Last year, we were thrilled to work with The Royal Academy of Arts to install 200 flags which showcased the works of several artists above the streets of Piccadilly, St James’s and Bond Street throughout the summer.

Jump forward to May 2019 and you can imagine how delighted we were to be asked to print flags for an upcoming exhibition in Italy featuring one of these artists, Joe Tilson. Mr Tilson was invited to the Giardini to create an installation for international art exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia.

This site-specific installation comprises 24 double-sided flags aligned in three rows. Each flag measures 150cm x 285cm and together these flags represent three enlarged paintings from Tilson’s Collection, “The Stones of Venice”.

With Swatch returning as main partner for the fifth consecutive year, the event also marked the launch of the Joe Tilson Venetian Watch.

The Field and Lawn Bristol branch was proud to play its part in this grand affair, producing the required flags and shipping these to Italy. We’re sure you’ll agree from the images that the flags definitely take centre stage at this exciting event.
